The Challenge
In December 2019, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District Governing Board adopted Rule 4460 which requires that petroleum refineries, including Kern Energy, install, operate and maintain air monitoring systems at the fenceline perimeters with public reporting. In response to the rule, Kern Energy needed technical assistance and expertise to implement a near-real-time fenceline monitoring system for compliance and protection of the environment and nearby communities.
Our Solution
Spheros provides comprehensive support for Kern Energy’s fenceline air monitoring program. Our scientists and technicians developed custom monitoring and quality assurance plans to cover the refinery’s fenceline, and evaluated, procured, and installed all equipment while maintaining and operating the monitoring network. Our specialized data management system, Insight©, performs automatic quality control and allows detailed data review by our experienced air quality scientists. Our web development team worked with Kern Energy to design, develop, and maintain a public website with real-time air quality information.
