The Challenge
The Cherry Creek Basin Water Quality Authority (CCBWQA) works to protect the beneficial uses and long-term health of Cherry Creek Reservoir and its surrounding watershed. Achieving that mission requires coordination among the Authority’s Board, Technical Advisory Committee, watershed management agencies, and other stakeholders, along with an effective approach for evaluating decades of water quality data and responding to evolving watershed management and regulatory needs.
CCBWQA needed a watershed consultant capable of providing both long-term strategic guidance and the technical expertise necessary to turn complex environmental data into actionable information for decision-makers and the public.
Our Solution
Spheros Environmental has supported CCBWQA as its Watershed Consultant since 2010, working collaboratively with the Board, Technical Advisory Committee, watershed management agencies, and other stakeholders to protect Cherry Creek Reservoir.
The team has helped CCBWQA develop a strategic plan defining its mission, vision, goals, objectives, strategies, and performance measures. Spheros also developed and manages the Authority’s water quality data portal, which brings together more than 20 years of basin water quality data and makes that information accessible through interactive storyboards illustrating key aspects of watershed health.
These visualizations, along with other Authority accomplishments and activities, are incorporated into web-based annual reports designed to communicate complex watershed information to audiences ranging from the general public to the Water Quality Control Commission.
Spheros also provides ongoing technical watershed services, including development of water quality standards, evaluation of pollutant-control options, development of technical guidance, and participation in rulemaking hearings.
